Einstein calculated energy to be equal to mass times the speed of light to the second power. In scientific notation, the equation looks like this:
[tex]E = mc^{2} [/tex]
Where E = energy, m = mass, and c = the speed of light.
Hope that helped! =)

E=energy
M=Mass
C= speed of light
So that means energy=mass x speed of light squared
