Bartolomeu Dias was a Portuguese sailor,born in 1450. He was the first explorer to round the extreme south of Africa in 1488,joining for the first time the Indian Ocean with the Atlantic.He also was the first european to sail far from the coast.He made an invaluable contribution to the discovey pf a sea route to the Indies.
